We are holding Research-Skill Improvement Seminars for Female Researchers.

 Office for Promotion of Gender Equality of Kyushu University holds seminars for graduate students and faculty members (male participants are welcome). We have held seminars named “English Presentation Seminar for Academic Conferences” (December 17 and 18), “English Email Communication to be Connected to the World – Understand, and Be Understood” (January 14), and “Learn from the basics; an intensive English Thesis course” (February 2 and 3) in the 2015 school year. International Academic Conference Dispatch Support (internal use only)

Objective

As a part of Kyushu University Fundamental Support System for Research Activities, we provide assistance to cover the costs of publishing theses at international academic conferences. This is a continuous initiative to cultivate and support young researchers, female researchers, and foreign researchers in order to promote a diverse research environment.

Eligible applicants

Faculty members, research fellows, young researchers, female researchers, and foreign researchers who belong to Kyushu University.

Assistance

Amount: (Up to) 350,000 yen for an overseas conference, (Up to) 120,000 yen for a domestic conference, approximately 24 persons per year (approximately 8 persons for each of young, female, and foreign researchers).
Objective: Round trip expenses, daily allowance needed for conference attendance, accommodation fees, and conference entrance fee.

Support for the Employment of Research Assistants (internal only)

Purpose of Support

This support aims to foster diversity in the research environment. It provides financial assistance to hire research assistants for researchers who have difficulty securing research time due to personal circumstances such as childbirth, childcare, or nursing care. The goal of this initiative is to prevent interruptions to their research activities.

Applicant Eligibility

Applicants must be faculty members or research fellows affiliated with Kyushu University who engage in research activities for 20 hours or more per week.

Assistance

Amount of support: Up to 50,000 yen per month for a maximum of 12 months (up to 600,000 yen in total).

Support for Returning from Maternity and Parental Leave (internal only)

Purpose of Support

The Support for Returning from Maternity and Parental Leave (referred to herein as SRW) is part of Kyushu University's Research Activity Support Program. To promote diversity in research environments and support researchers, Kyushu University provides financial assistance to help those who have interrupted their research due to maternity or childcare leave resume their research activities smoothly.

Applicant Eligibility

Faculty members or research fellows belonging to Kyushu University who have suspended research activities for three months or more due to childbirth or parenting within the past three years and have returned to the workplace to resume research activities.

Assistance

Amount: Up to 500,000 yen per person
Examples of eligible expenses:
- Equipment expenses: Small purchases necessary for research activities (including computers)
- Supplies expenses: Items necessary for research activities, such as office supplies
- Personnel expenses: Research assistant employment expenses
- Domestic travel expenses: Travel expenses for attending academic conferences, research activities, or meetings
- Service expenses: Expenses for attending academic conferences, English proofreading of academic articles, and submission fees for academic articles
